| Blue Toe 2010 gets Rush coaches to go barefoot for bare feet |
Idaho Rush is proud to launch a fun, creative way to kick off the spring soccer season with hundreds of cold feet during our first Blue Toe campaign.
Coaches for Idaho Rush’s 100-plus Select and Competitive teams are being asked to coach their season openers on March 6 in their bare feet in support of Samaritan’s Feet, a non-profit dedicated to delivering shoes to impoverished children around the world. Players and their families are asked to donate $5 or more via text message or online donations. The club settled on that amount because it is small enough that most players could reach it themselves, and because through purchasing and shipping agreements arranged by Samaritan's Feet, $5 is enough to get a new pair of shoes into a child’s hands.

The Blue Toe 2010 fundraising effort will kick off on Monday, Feb. 15, the day most teams begin training outdoors for the spring season. Parents and players have until Saturday, March 6, to make their contribution toward a suggested goal of $50 per team. Idaho Rush has asked Samaritan’s Feet that all money raised during the Blue Toe be directed toward earthquake relief efforts in Haiti.
WHAT WE'RE ASKING FAMILIES TO DO
- Make a donation to Samaritan's Feet to help put shoes on a child's feet. Parents can donate in any of the following ways:
- (PREFERRED) Text the word "shoes" to 85944 and $5 will be added to your phone bill in support of Samaritan's Feet.
- (PREFERRED) Donate online using PayPal or a credit card at www.samaritansfeet.com.
- Mail checks payable to Samaritan's Feet to CYSA/Idaho Rush, 270 S. Orchard, Boise ID 83705.
- Bring a pair of new athletic shoes to your coach at the sidelines before your game. Due to shipping costs and the buying power Samaritan's Feet has arranged through shoe companies, monetary donations are preferred. Families may donate actual shoes if they prefer. Shoes must be new and unworn.
- Let us know how it goes! Take some pictures and e-mail them to mfrench@idahorush.com. We’ll post some of the best photos online.
WHAT WE'RE ASKING COACHES TO DO:
- Participate! Commit to your players that you will coach in your bare feet that day, regardless of the weather. Make it fun by offering to paint your toenails (or even your entire feet!) in Rush blue or challenging the parents on your team to join you. Make it a challenge and let your players feel like they're getting over on you!
- Set a team goal. We're suggesting a team goal of $50 (10 players at $5 each) but your team may want to set a higher goal to help more kids.
Samaritan’s Feet has seen a number of coaches across the country coach in their bare feet, most notably men’s basketball coach Ron Hunter of IUPUI. More than 3,000 basketball coaches at all levels have participated so far, but this may be the first time an entire organization has done it – outdoors. Idaho Rush plans to promote the program to the other 26 Rush Soccer affiliates across the country in the hopes of getting other coaches involved. Idaho Rush prides itself not only on its soccer accomplishments, but on its ongoing participation in community service projects such as Rake Up Boise, TOPSoccer (for players with physical or mental disabilities), and our One World Soccer program for refugees. The Blue Toe 2010 is yet another way Rush players set themselves apart from being “just” soccer players. For questions or more information, contact Mark French at 336-6512 or mfrench@idahorush.com. |
