Girls U12 team wins tournament in north Idaho
The U12 Rush Grey girls won the championship at the Pend Orielle Cup in Sandpoint, Sept. 8-9.
During the tournament the team played teams from northern Idaho, Montana and British Columbia. Rush Grey had 12 different players score goals during the tournament resulting in 24-1 goal differential.
In the final, Rush Grey faced the Post Falls Thunder. Cara Tapella scored first on a brilliant arcing chip from the corner at the 10 min. mark. After that the match remained very heated with several chances to increase the lead for the Grey. However, due to an amazing 14-save effort by the Post Falls keeper, the score remained tied until the final 3 minutes when Maggie Reynolds ripped a blistering far post shot that rang both posts before ending in the net.
Although all the girls had an amazing effort Grace Johnson, at center back, deserves special recognition for marking shut outs for all her minutes played.
