RushFest-01-2013     Nearly 30 Idaho Rush players kept their soccer lives rolling through the summer with their first-ever trip to the annual RushFest event near Denver in July. RushFest is a yearly gathering of soon-to-be U13 boys and girls teams from every Rush Soccer affiliate from around the world. In all, more than 550 players on 38 teams attended in 2013.

“When the president of Rush named all the states in attendance I was surprised how large of an organization Rush is,” said Aiden Borders of the girls U12-Black team. “There were even teams from the Bahamas!”

RushFest-02-2013     Idaho Rush has sent individual players and small groups to RushFest in the past, but this was the first year the club was able to send entire teams. Idaho sent 14 boys and 13 girls.

The week was filled with training, matches against other Rush teams and classroom sessions. But the highlight was when Rush took over Dick’s Sporting Goods Park, filling more than 1,200 seats to watch the Colorado Rapids take on the New England Revolution.

“Denver was a blast, despite my broken arm,” said Brooke Kilbuck of the girls U13-Premier team. “Even though it was only a week, I learned tons of new skills.”

It was a 16-hour drive on a chartered bus, but the players and parent chaperons watched movies and slept through the night to pass the time. Individuals were responsible for the cost of the trip at $800 per player, but some players participated in fundraising activities to help offset the cost of the trip.

“Rush Fest was a very positive experience for me,” said Max Smay about his once-in-a-lifetime event. “If I could, I would go back in a heartbeat.”
