The Idaho Rush boys U18 Nike finished 2-1 in the top division of the elite Surf College Cup over the Thanksgiving weekend.
Behind goals by Garrett Jones and Nick Davey in the first game and Luke Chouinard and Jake Wicher in the second, Rush defeated the nation’s 33rd- and 34th-ranked teams 2-1 and 2-0, respectively. However, Rush fell 1-0 to northern California’s Davis Legacy, a U18 team ranked fourth nationally in the U19 age group. The loss left them one point short of moving on to the semifinals.
Event organizers initially placed Rush in the second division despite their history of strong performances. They were finalists in three elite showcases and won their group at US Youth Soccer’s Far West Regionals last summer.
Then, only two days before the event, Rush was invited to move up to the “Super Group” when a Nevada team withdrew.
"I think our results showed that we belong with the top teams in the west," said head coach Jens Haustein. "I was proud of the way the boys played and I know the experience will pay off don the road."
